2007 Year end Announcement
This has been another busy year with positive progress on the Center development,
conservation and education programs, and continuing HWC wildlife response.
We are thankful for so many who have sent in donations and volunteered professional skills and time. The pro-bono design and construction team continues to go above and beyond with the design completed, with permit application assistance, development of sources for the donation of materials, supplies, professional services and monetary fundraising to help us stay within our construction budget and time line.
We also are grateful for the eight foundations that provided grants in 2007 to help the HWC nearer to its goals. The HWC also received annual donations from business such as the Kohala Ranch Development Corp. and the Big Island Country Club, which named the HWC beneficiary of their recent 10th Anniversary Golf Tournament. In addition, we received the first installment of the State grant-in-aid with NKCRC’s valuable assistance.
With these grants, individual contributors and the growing in-kind donations from many professionals, the HWC project has received two-thirds of the funds necessary to construct the Center. We are now kicking off our fundraising campaign for the final one-third of the funds so that construction can begin in early 2008.
