Directions to the Hawai‘i Wildlife Center

Future HWC building siteFrom Kona and South Kohala:
 Turn left onto Highway 19 (Queen Kaahumanu Hwy) and drive North until you reach the intersection with a stop sign of Kawaihae Harbor and Waimea Town. Turn left and drive to Kawaihae Harbor. Turn right onto Highway 270 (Akoni Pule Hwy), toward Mahukona and Hawi. Continue to drive eastward through Hawi Town and Kapa'au Town. Drive past the statue of King Kamehameha and the "Bond Historic District".  Lighthouse Road is located on the left hand side a short distance after the 24th mile marker. You will see our sign with a tropicbird “Coming Soon” next to ATV Outfitters and Earthworks signs. Head down the road and we are located on the right side behind the Kohala Middle School marked with a Hawaii Wildlife Center sign.

From Hilo and Waimea:
Turn right on Highway 19 drive along the Hamakua Coastline until you reach Waimea. Take a right and stay on Highway 19 at the Lindsey Road intersection traffic light. Stay on Highway 19 until you come to a small bridge. The road will fork so keep to your right. This is Highway 250 (Kohala Mountain Road) This will lead you to Hawi Town and Kapa'au Town, approximately 25 minutes. This scenic Pu`u Wa`awa`a Ranch Fundraiser 2008mountain road winds through pasture and ocean vistas until it ends at Highway 270 (Akoni Pule Road). Turn right and continue drive eastward through Hawi Town and Kapa'au Town. Drive past the statue of King Kamehameha and the "Bond Historic District".  Lighthouse Road is located on the left hand side a short distance after the 24th mile marker.
