In
a good partnership between Hawai‘i Wildlife Center and Kohala Middle
School's Uplink after school program, students are decorating the back
of the sign on Lighthouse Road that marks the spot where the center will
be built. Students first researched Hawai‘i's wildlife
and then did sketches to be transferred to the sign. It has been a great
project and students are enjoying the time away from campus just to paint.
Linda Elliott, Hawai‘i Wildlife Center director, explained “One of HWC’s objectives is having students involved in the Center from the ground up. We are thrilled with the project Connie and the Students are doing and look forward to working together with the Kohala Middle School on more projects.
When students were asked about their experiences this
is what they said:
"It is relaxing to paint and it’s for a good cause," Said Karisse. "It
is fun just to get away from school and paint," commented Isabel. Amber
chimed in, "Yah, one day we painted everything in sight, including our
hair." Clearly students are enjoying their painting project
and learning about painting with acrylics, cooperating with each other and
conservation of Hawai‘i's wild creatures.
